Winner Of The ‘How Far Would You Travel For Love’ Competition

Recently, in honour of the Maxie + Eldon project, I held a competition (thanks to SaySo Weddings) where there was a call for entries detailing how far one would travel for love.

I had 20 lovely entries. I would like to thank everyone for sharing their stories and thoughts.

Here is the entry that grabbed me:

My husband and I met through Skype – me in Adelaide and him living on a US Base in Germany – and became instant friends. From the beginning we seemed to share a special connection and after a few months we realised there was something a lot deeper than friendship there. So he came to visit me for 6 days (it was all the time he could get off) to find out if what we shared ‘online’ was real ‘offline’ … and it was bigger than either of us could have imagined! There was a 6 month period between that visit and his next one, but during that time we spent as much time as we could talking through Skype, on the telephone and emailing each other. When he came again, we renewed our bond and deep feelings. Then after 3 months I went to visit him in Europe and we had a great road trip to Venice and Paris where we fell deeply in love.

He came again to share Christmas with my family and I, after what had been a real test of our love and relationship with many external factors threatening our future together.

Another trip by him after that and one more by me to Europe, where our daughter was ‘made’, and we both knew that we had to do what we could to have a life together in the same country!

So last year in June he moved to Adelaide and we were married in October (with baby in the oven). Unfortunately we had some more bad luck and he had to return to Germany, where he’s now been for 3 and a half months. We are planning for my daughter and I to move there to be with him. I will move anywhere as long as we can be together as a family. He truly is my guardian Angel :-)

LOVE ISN’T AFFECTED BY GEOGRAPHY

How far would you travel for love?

Absence, it has been said, is the recipe for making the heart yearn longer and much more passionately. Much like how fasting makes you appreciate the wonders of food, or how distance from your own warm bed makes the warm embrace of your home quilt more loving upon homecoming.

This refers to periods of prolonged absence though. But what of distance?

Love itself is not affected by geography, and can remain just as intense when in the arms of your beloved and when vast stretches of land and water exist. Seeing their photo, hearing their voice or even recognising their particular handwriting on a crumpled piece of paper can stir emotions and remind you that, out there, they exist. And they exist for you.

So, it is time that affects love, causing it to swell within your soul, threatening to burst at any moments notice. There comes a point where the threshold cannot hold back the surging emotion and you simply must see them again.

How far would you travel for love?

Love conquers all. There ain’t no mountain high enough. The classics are woven with such declarations of love. Other stories will speak of men sending entire armies, and willingly sacrificing much for the sake of love.

When at home, and you know your beloved is either across the road, or on the other side of the planet, the building emotion can be so much that you declare to yourself that you can no longer stand to be away from them a single moment longer.

You stand, affirming to yourself that you will see them now. You take a few deep breaths, feeling those butterflies play cheekily around your diaphragm, before shivering and taking those brave first steps on your journey to once again witness your love before you.

You consider for a moment what you need to do to achieve your goal.

Recently, I met a beautiful bride whose wedding I will be photographing very soon. I was really taken by her story. She has met her groom-to-be only once before. He writes her regularly from London, and they will be reunited again on their wedding day…

Can–you–imagine.

I was so moved by their circumstances that I just had to share it with you all. I’d like to run a competition to honour the beautiful theme of long-distance love. To enter, all you have to do is tell how far you would travel for love…

Be creative or honest or quirky or just be you. (Or maybe you are all those things anyway!) The best response will receive a $200 flight centre voucher! Yes, I really wrote that!

And So Lauren & Chris Won The Couples Shoot Competition…

A little while ago, I ran a Facebook competition for a free couples shoot. Lauren and Chris won it. Huzzah!

We decided on Morialta Conservation Park as our location. We started off in the “safer” part of the park…

After the outfiit change, we spontaneously decided to drive further up towards the falls. I was a bit nervous because I didn’t know what to expect, and driving around cliffs over-excites me in a very bad way! Haha.

As we walked up towards the lookout area, I was so taken by the surroundings. It was so incredibly beautiful. I really don’t know South Australia like I should. I was just so proud of what I saw and I cannot wait to go back there.

Yes, I love amazing scenery and spontaneous decisions and a willing couple.

Lauren and Chris, thank you for having a little fun with me, and for being so malleable while we tried this pose and that pose. You were both great!

And bless you, Morialta.

And now onto the second location – well, it’s really the same location, but it’s around the lookout area.

I did not superimpose them! I promise! :) How Aussie is this scenery? Don’t you just LOVE it?

Ah, this photo makes me chuckle. Cause it really could have ended in tears! (As my husband likes to say.) An accidental tumble to the right would have been um… oh, I don’t even want to think about it! It was a LONG way down, put it that way. Mind you, Lauren had crazy heels on, too.

I think we needed a book and a cup of tea here to complete the picture… it was so serene and just so beautiful…

Dani & Troy’s Pre-Wedding Shoot

Dani and Troy are a gorgeous couple and they’re getting married in October! Woot! (I’ve been having wedding withdrawal symptoms – I tell ya.)

What makes them extra gorgeous, is the little bundle they have together named Archer. Such a beautiful little boy with wonderful light blue eyes. Big eyes. A happy little soul indeed, and was more than happy to give me loads of smiles for the photos. Bless him.

This session was Dani and Troy’s pre-wedding shoot, but we included Archer because seriously, how could you not?!

We all met at Adelaide’s Art Gallery, and the plan was to take some shots around there (I had the pillars in my head); but there were more interesting corners behind the building, and it was in those pockets that we stayed. The day started with very miserable weather, and though it didn’t bother me, Dani wasn’t sure whether to go ahead. Luckily we kept on and the weather even cleared up a tad. Just for us, of course.

After the shots with Archer, the grandparents whisked him away so that we could focus on Dani and Troy as a couple. The romantic element set in. It was a great plan!

What I like most about this session is that it feels like there is something in it for everybody. The romance and the family factor, the urban look, the classic buildings, the wintry feel, softened by lots of laughter and smiles. I think there’s a few keepsakes in there for the grandparents for sure.

I’ve never noticed this building before, and what a photo “prop” it turned out to be!

Alessandro’s Newborn Shoot – The Extended Version

I have posted a couple of sneak previews of Alessandro and his mummy previously, but here are a few more shots from the heavenly session we had. It was hard to believe that weeks prior, Alessandro had a grand baby shower put on for him (and for mummy, too!) and that now he’s really and truly here, looking as gorgeous as ever and making his parents incredibly happy.

Catherine Siciliano Finally Gets A Dot Com

My mother is positively going to confiscate all of my belongings if I don’t hurry and get her website up and running.

A background, if you will…

My mum is a visual artist, and a mighty great and versatile one — if you don’t mind me saying so! I’m very proud of her, and her art, and I love what’s in that crazy little head of hers and how she chooses to express it visually. Actually, I think her art is amazing.

But the poor lady has needed a website for so long, and it simply cannot be put off any longer.

I’ve made a start at least! The good ol’ coming soon page. Haha.

Today I took some shots of her, and her workspace (which is one of my all-time favourite things to photograph) and some of her artwork as well.
