Truth be told, my first brush with film (since shooting professionally) took place in August last year when I shot some 35mm in Kangaroo Island. I had treated it as a bit of a test run, as I was tired of being reliant on digital. I found it really rewarding, and I wanted to delve deeper. And then I had the FILM IS NOT DEAD workshop coming up in January this year (which I will review really soon!) and so I had wanted to practice a little more before attending…
I bought some (of the more easily available) Fuji 400s and took a few shots around Glenelg last Christmas (results below). I haven’t shot 35mm since, only medium format. (I’m not giving up on 35, it’s just that my combination of Pentax SF10, fuji 400s and scanner didn’t exactly knock me off my feet, but you know, it was what I had to work with.)
I’ve thrown these late 2011 shots in as a background to some significant upcoming changes I’ll be making to the way I shoot (especially my personal work). I’m looking forward to showing more in medium format, and more importantly, showing more of my journey as a new hybrid (film & digital) shooter. (Major credits to Jon Canlas for showing me the way.)
